Spartan boys golfers advance to states

PINEHURST — The Priest River boys golf team finished in second place at the district championships at the Pinehurst Golf Course May 8.

The Spartan score of 380 trailed district champions Kellogg 299 but was ahead of Bonners Ferry 409 and Timberlake 426.

The second place showing was good enough to earn the team a trip to states next week at the Idaho Falls Country Club. Four golfers from Kellogg qualified for states with scores of 78 or better.

Kody Salesky’s 84 was just short of the mark needed to advance to states as an individual. Conner Vaage shot 96 while fellow boys team members Ben Zapfe and Dillon Yeoman each shot 100.

On the girls side, Priest River finished last as a team with a score of 602 behind Bonners Ferry 586, Timberlake 437, and Kellogg 389.

Spartan Maddy Rusho led her team with a 131, followed by Amy Flack 138, Heather Pounds 159, and Victoria Millward 174. This year’s girls team was the first full girls team field by Priest River in years.
