Stapleton, Smith, Surfus, Pederson win as hydroplane regatta returns to river

OLDTOWN ó The State Line Outboard Racing Association held its annual Newport/Oldtown Regatta here Aug. 5-6. Race organizer Kelly Burnett reported that 11-year old Andrew Strawn won the novice category with a score of 2400 points. In the Y80 category, Courtney Stapleton came in first with 1900 points, followed by Floyd Case at 1650 and Trystn Murray in third place with 1313 points.

Briana Surfus won first place in the Y102 category with a score of 2000 points. Stapleton came in second at 1500, followed by Burnett in third place with 1259.

Jimmy Smith won the D-Stocks with 2200 points, and Kevin Palmer took second place with 2000 points. Surfus took first place in the E-Mods with 2400 Points, followed by Ron Baker in second with 1800 points, and Smith in third place. Derek Pederson won the Super E class with a score of 1400 points. George Doiís 800 point score was good enough for second place. Jeston Burnett finished in third place with 225 points.
