Newport girls win at holiday classic

SPOKANE — Newport beat Kettle Falls 52-35 at the Eagle Holiday Classic at West Valley High School Dec. 29. Newport built a commanding 32-12 lead by halftime, and Kettle Falls wasn’t able to catch up in the second half. Grizzly Jocelyn Nenema led Newport with 17 points.

The girls hung around in their Jan. 4 contest with Medical Lake, but got blown out in a 21-6 third quarter. Nenema led Newport with 19 points, while Robinson added 12 points as well.

At Riverside Jan. 5, Newport put together a solid, consistent performance and won 61-46. The Grizzlies held Riverside to 13 or fewer points in each quarter, while scoring 15 or more in each quarter. Robinson led Grizzly scorers with 18 points in the win, wiht Schoener adding 15 and Nenema contributing 13.
